IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Nananue, or King Shark
Canon: DC Extended Universe (The Suicide Squad)
Canon Point: The end of the movie, leaving with the remainder of the team
Age: Unknown
Background: From the wiki! His early history is sparse, and his origins are unknown. I plan on working around this by having him be vague if anyone asks, which is pretty much IC for him.
Arrival Scenario: Solvunn
Suitability:
Additionally, I like playing non-(entirely)human intelligences, especially the internal parts of how they think and rationalize their situation. For long term plans, with all the emphasis on ritual and old gods I think it'd be funny for him to accidentally develop a cult following one day.
As far as issues with his intelligence and ability to communicate, he does speak in incomplete sentences but in general people seem to understand what he's saying. The Network will be more difficult for him, but as another long term goal I'd like to find someone patient/willing to teach him to read and write at least a little bit. He's already learned 'sí' in Spanish!
Powers:
☠ He's a shark-man: Superstrength, superdurability, the ability to breathe underwater, a mouth full of sharp teeth and hand-fin-claws. Nananue can rip grown men in half and chomp through giant alien creatures. Extreme impacts/explosions don't seem to do much to him, nor do high caliber bullets affect his thick hide very much. He does eventually tire, but it takes much longer than it would for a human.
☠ Healing factor: Like most superbeings Nanaue has some level of superhuman healing factor. He's not Wolverine and not immortal, though. Anything that could pierce his hide/skull or rip his head off in general would be enough to kill him.
☠ Supersenses... ?: He's probably good a sniffing out blood like a shark and better than average eyesight especially in dim light, but if he has any other enhanced senses they are negated by the fact he gets too distracted sometimes to even notice his teammates have left him behind.
PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
Cleo's (Ratcatcher 2) offer to be Nanaue's friend has a major impact on him, most notably in how it keeps him from attempting to eat her every time she falls asleep - as well as making it clear he should not try to eat his other teammates who are also now his friends.
Because of what he is and his preferences for human flesh, Nanaue understandably has never had friends before meeting Cleo and the others. In that instant he seems genuinely a little sad and lonely, and after gaining his first friends he's very excited to make more! Sometimes he's not always the best judge of character and trusts a little too easily in anything he interprets as a friendly overture, such as the seemingly friendly fish who turned out to want to eat him as soon as they were released from their aquarium. This sudden betrayal was very upsetting to Nanaue, but didn't seem to negatively affect or make him suspicious about his other friendships. Nanaue is not an inherently suspicious character, probably because not much can kill him - so self-preservation is not really something he worries about much.
Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
He previously worked as an enforcer for criminal enterprises and is generally happy to cause violence in whatever direction he's pointed at if it means he's allowed to eat his targets. In general he's led by his stomach, whenever he's hungry he will try to eat whatever or whomever is nearby - alive or dead.
Teammates were, at first, not an exception to this rule, until Cleo asked him if he would eat his friends if he had them. He gives her a very uninspiring reply of "No?", but presumably after some internal conflict is resolved he does seem to make an exception to eating his friends/teammates. Cleo is able to safely sleep next to him on the flight back home at the end of the movie.
What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Look, I'm not going to bullshit this. He has low standards and doesn't seem to admire anyone in particular over another within the group, or even notice that their disappearances mean they've died. He's enthralled by whatever new or interesting thing is right in front of him at any given moment: birds, fish, the idea of books, his own hand.
He is surprisingly loyal to his living friends, though, and if he does happen to notice they are leaving he will curiously follow after them. And he's disappointed when his idea of a disguise is dismissed so he has to wait in the van while everyone else goes to the bar.
Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
He states he has no friends and seems sad about that, but he is who he is. He is genuinely happy as long as he's allowed to eat things and only really expresses disappointment when he cannot eat things, or if he's excluded from the group for reasons that seem unfair to him. He gets frustrated when his idea for a disguise is not deemed good enough for him to join the others at a bar, but it's doubtful he understood why putting his finger over his nose was an inadequate attempt.
He does sometimes make an effort to appear smarter than he is, so he's a least somewhat self-aware of that weakness - even if he overestimates he's ability to fake his own intelligence. He makes vague comments about a book and how much he enjoys reading, even though he's holding said book upside down and clearly illiterate to everyone else in the room.
On the plus side, his nature makes him nearly immune to mental trauma! Most things just roll off his back.
What is their sign, and why? The Fool! Nanaue is just rolling through life without much of a care unless his stomach is involved.
